Mr. Jeff S. - Georgia: This is a computer engineer stuck down by Hepatitis C with severe Chronic Pain, Anxiety-Depression and Fibromyalgia-Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunctional Syndrome (FM-CFIDS).
It seems that there is definitely a higher incidence of FM-CFIDS in the Hepatitis C population according to the medical literature and my clinic experience. So far, I have noticed that when I have treated patients with FM-CFIDS and chronic pain specifically, then there seems to be some immunological improvement of hepatitis C patients - or at least they are better able to withstand the chemotherpay for Hepatitis C.
Here is some preliminary observational evidence presented by the patient himself, Mr. Jeff S:
"Prior to my first visit with Dr. Gatell, I was diagnosed with chronic Hepatitis C and had begun Interferon / Ribavirin combination therapy. I began to feel worse than I can ever remember: I was constantly suffering from nausea, vomiting, and depression; and I became completely bedridden and unable to work.
I have been seeing Dr. Gatell and taking Guaifenesin for about 9 months now, and I feel better than I have in fifteen years. It was a rough ride at first, because I actually felt worse for a while after I first began cycling. I was initially having about 3-4 good days to 7 - 9 bad days. But I hung in there, and continued with my medication; and lately I have been having 20 - 25 good days to 2 - 3 bad days.
And, the best news of all is that as of my last test, my viral load is down to undetectable levels (0) from over 330,000 copies/ml; and my ALT (SGPT) is down from a high of 79 to 19.
My life has changed so completely since I began seeing Dr. Gatell. I have more energy and feel less pain than since I was a child. I can't thank Dr. Gatell enough for finding the true root of my problem, and not just labeling me a drug addict like other doctors I have seen."
