I have been a patient of Dr. Gatell's for over 2 years now. Before I saw Dr. Gatell, I spent virtually all of my time in bed due to the severity of my illnesses, Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) and Fibromyalgia. At that time, the pain was totally incapacitating, as was the fatigue, and the overall misery was excruciating.

Sleep was short and infrequent, which only worsened my medical condition. And to top it all off, I could not find anyone who specialized in treating these illnesses. The treatment by my family doctor was totally inadequate and I realized over time as my health continually deteriorated from the early '90's onward that I desperately needed a specialist in CFIDS and
Fibromyalgia. The problem was, I was going to have to go out of state to get that help, because doctors who specialize in treating these illnesses are extremely rare. Then I discovered Dr. Gatell.

First off, Dr. Gatell diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia, which I didn't even know I had, even though I had been to many other doctors. I also learned I had several related syndromes, which also had gone undiagnosed. Since being treated by Dr. Gatell, I am now able to get 8 hours of sleep most nights and I can spend almost as much time out of bed as I used to spend in bed. This might not sound like much to someone who has never been this sick, but it makes a tremendous difference in the quality of my life. I wasn't even eating 3 meals a day before treatment, because I just didn't have the strength to do so. I felt like I was going to have to spend the rest of my life in bed and that my life was coming to an end. Now, my illness no longer completely controls every moment of my life.

Although I am still a long way from being in good health and there is a great deal that the average person can do that I cannot, I at least feel like recovery, after many years of declining health, is possible.

Dr. Gatell is unusual in that he takes such a great deal of time with his patients. My visits range from approximately half an hour to close to an hour and a half. I feel like I have spent more time with him than all my other doctors put together. So many doctors are in such a hurry to pull out their prescription pad and start writing so they can hurry up and push you out of their offices. Dr. Gatell is just the opposite. His visits take as long as needed for him to get the information he requires; he is unusually thorough.

Those who suffer from chronic pain, as well as CFIDS and Fibromyalgia, are well served by Dr. Gatell.
