Ms. Lisa H. - North Carolina - This is a very beautiful young lady who came to me needing help from the "dreaded disease" (DD) or Fibromyalgia-Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with Chronic Pain. Here is her story:

"February 10, 2000

Dear Dr. Gatell:

Yesterday was my 27th birthday and I'm writing this letter to thank you. Although I have done nothing special for my birthday, this was the first one in three years that I didn't have to stress over physical and emotional pain that I've lived with and faced everyday of my life. I am not yet totally pain free and realistically I may never be. But I am not hopelessly in pain with no end in sight like I was three years ago.

I trust you Dr. Gatell with my life. This statement very few patients make to their doctors these days. This is an expression I've never made to anyone in the health care field. I know you genuinely care about your patients and you make an effort to make each and every patient feel special. You try to develop a relationship that extends far beyond a usual doctor-patient relationship. (But between you and me, I know I am really your favorite patient) - : ) (smile)

You are an outstanding physician and the work you do for FMS patients improves their quality of lives. You turn tears of hopelessness to smiles, looking forward to the next day. I know personally, you have improved my quality of my life. And for that I cannot thank you enough. You are a very special man and will always hold a dear place in my heart.
