Thank you for visiting our Medical Wellness & Pain Relief Website at www.drgatell.com or sponsored by Angel Pain Relief Center. I am a published, Board Certified Anesthesiologist and Medical Pain Specialist, as well as a Certified Medical Hypnotherapist in the Metro-Atlanta area.

In 1985, I graduated from The University of Rochester, School of Medicine & Dentistry, Rochester, New York. I went on to do a  Medical Internship at University Hospital, New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York (1985-86). Then, for the next 3 years (1986-1989), I trained in the Specialty of Anesthesiology at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York with a Sub-specialty in Cardiovascular Anesthesiology. I also began my interest in Pain Management at this time, and was very much influenced by the father of the patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), Dr. Philip Sechtzer. Finally, I went on to do a Fellowship in Advanced Anesthesiology and Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York (1989-1990).

Since then, I have worked at various hospitals as an Anesthesiologist and Medical Pain Specialist. I began treating more and more patients with chronic pain over the next 8 years in a Hospital and out-patient setting. I became Board-certified in both Anesthesiology with added credentials in Pain Management.

In 1998, I finally went into private practice, The Angel Pain Relief Center, in order to better focus my efforts in helping patients in intractable chronic pain. Most of my fellow doctors did not want to treat patients with intractable chronic pain and therefore under-treating pain. I therefore felt that there was more than enough work out there for me to do.

Recently, I  have also incorporated some Natural Holistic Medicine techniques. In order to further help my patients with chronic pain, I also became a Certified Hypnotherapist (CHT) in the area of Milton Ericksonian techniques and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) .

Finally, I have established this Website in order to share with you some of my insights into how I see intractable pain and its medical management and have actively participated on many Internet mailing lists.

Therefore, with my integration of traditional Pain Medicine with Holistic-Alternative Medical approaches in my practice, I can offer a wide-range of multi-disciplinary medical approaches to my patients with intractable chronic pain conditions.
